Welcome to the Dr. Theodore T. Alexander Jr. Science Center School — A Proud Affiliated Charter School in the Heart of Exposition Park

At the Dr. Theodore T. Alexander Jr. Science Center School, we believe that learning should be active, meaningful, and deeply connected to the world around us. As an affiliated charter school within the Los Angeles Unified School District, and in proud partnership with the California Science Center, we offer a unique educational experience rooted in project-based learning and community collaboration.

Our mission is to foster a vibrant learning environment where curiosity is encouraged, creativity is celebrated, and every student is empowered to become an innovative problem solver. We design learning experiences that are interdisciplinary, hands-on, and inquiry-driven — connecting science, math, technology, and the arts through real-world projects and authentic exploration.

Inspired by the California Science Center’s interactive and discovery-based approach, our instructional model engages students in active learning using real artifacts, scientific specimens, and hands-on experiments. Our students don’t just learn about science — they do science. They ask questions, investigate solutions, collaborate with peers, and present their learning in ways that reflect their voice and creativity. This is only possible because of our incredible community. Located in the cultural and scientific heart of Los Angeles — Exposition Park — we are surrounded by extraordinary partners like the California Science Center, the University of Southern California, and a wide array of museums and organizations. Our school thrives because of the active involvement of our parents, grandparents, and community members who bring wisdom, love, and dedication to our campus every day.

As principal, I am deeply honored to lead this special school — not only as an educator with over 32 years of experience in LAUSD, but also as a lifelong member of this very community. I am committed to creating a school culture where every child feels known, valued, and challenged to reach their full potential.
